SBD-3 Dauntless and the Battle of Midway

216 pages,520 illustrations et photos,31 profiles, plan au 1/48,13 mpas en 3D. in english Here from Spain a new concept of work putting a direct bond between a plane and a major air battle. This title treats SDB3 which were illustrated particularly in Midway. First half evokes the situation and the course of operation with the naval and air movements of the two camps. The text is illustrated with photographs in black and white, profiles of planes, aircraft carriers, and especially  3D charts in the style of Osprey. That swarms with details such codes of the flags, or the sings of carrier landing. The second part is exclusively reserved for the aircraft and the model maker will be at paradise. Plans at the 1/48, sketches interior, photographs of an airplane from the NASM, and especially extracted  notes from  flight and maintenance manuals explaining the functions and the various internal circuits (gears, flaps, diving brakes..).this will radically change us from the well-known walk-arounds, based on an unmovable standard. The link is thus established between the initial state charge schedule and the adopted technical solutions. The evolution of markings, colours and versions of Dauntless finish this work which answers the various questions that simple photographs alone, cannot bring. Warmly recommended to the fellows of history and to the model makers. As BBC reporter Charles Gardner said formely, <<we are waiting for the next...>>

"This book is especially well-done, and has very good art work and maps to describe the SBD and the most important battle of the Pacific Ocean war.  I believe this is the best presentation of that battle in a book of this size available today."

"Well, now might be a good time to mention a book I just received from Spain, SBD-3 Dauntless & the Battle of Midway by Daniel V. Hernandez (Aeronaval Publishing SL, ISBN 84-932963-0-9).  I saw the ad in the magazine "Fine Scale Modeler", which I perused because it reviewed a new kit of an F-8E Crusader.  The ad was well laid out, with good graphics that about 10 different pages which you could read if you looked carefully, and it stated "All technical data has been obtained from the official manuals" and that the recently deceased LCdr. Richard H. Best was credited with had written the prologue.  Then Lt. Best was a hero of Midway, leading USS Enterprise's Bombing 6 and scoring a personal direct hit on the First Air Fleet's flagship carrier Akagi, which his squadron destroyed."... read more

"Thank you so much for the two copies of SBD-3 Dauntless and the Battle of Midway. Some of  the old pilots in the Museum thought the book was a good description of the SBD-3.  One was so fascinated with the book he borrowed my copy. I put the other copy in the Emil Buehler Library here in the Naval Aviation Museum. I especially liked the illustrations of the fleet movements during the battle."

Museum of Naval Aviation---USA

"I received my copy of SBD-3 Dauntless today and let me congratulate you on publishing what is sure to be a benchmark for future aviation historical studies.  The attention to detail and quality of this book is outstanding. Please pass my admiration on to the author Daniel Hernandez for his noteworthy addition to my historical aviation collection. I noted that this is volume one, can you state what the future volumes will be?   If they are anywhere close to approaching same quality as this book, you can count on me as a loyal customer."

The author introduce in this volume, an outstanding US Navy dive bomber, theSBD-3 Dauntless, that had his momentous in the mythical Battle of Midway, one of the greatest air naval clash in Naval History. His writing technique is, first to recount the action in the air and in the sea that developed in this important confrontation, in a superb style, to follow with the detailed and thorough description of the aircraft through all her production variants (type marks), furthermore the battle actions in which took part adding the naval units shedestroyed. The publishing presentation of the book is excellent, and also have in mind the scale modelers. The 1:48 scale plans, graphics and full color drawings are attractive and clarifying, and the pictures are of indubitable historic value. It is a very readable book, since the author uses a straight and clear style. In resume, it is a brilliant beginning of a series that foretells a promising future.
